Why Story 101?

bogel art marvia davidsonWhat does one do when her career world falls to pieces and all that’s left is uncertainty?  I had lost a job and needed a creative outlet.  I chose to journal and write about my experience.  The one thing I remember is thinking while unemployed, I want to be in a writing community.  I had never been in one.  I didn’t even know if it would be the right thing for me to do.  I only knew I wanted to be among a community of writers.

After all, what else was I going to do with all the time I have been “gifted,” aside from job searching and networking?  I took a chance on diving into writing community with a course called Story 101 (affiliate link).  My creative life hasn’t been that same since, and it’s one of the best investments I have made.

Story 101 made me a better writer and creative because it provided a means for me to wrangle hard subjects like, loss, grieving, pain, sorrow, and heartache.  It gave me a way to rediscover my voice in writing.  It gave me hope that the words I penned did matter.  It gave me space to connect with other women who inspired with their words.  It gave me a boost of confidence.  More than anything, Story 101 was a course in which I could wrestle with deeper ideas about art, faith, and creativity.  It was the impetus for much of what I write at the Human Impulse blog as well as two books in editing phases.  I never knew I could write those books, until I took 101.

Maybe there is a quiet stirring in your soul that you were made for more.  Perhaps you hear the whispers of “you matter; your words matter; your story matters.”  May I tell you something, those whispers and longings are legitimate.  Those words bubbling up from the soles of your feet and coursing through your vein deserve to be heard and written.  They are a sacred trust.  Maybe you don’t think of yourself as a writer.  That’s okay.  I didn’t either.  The more I began to participate in the class and dive into rough writing waters, the more I realized I have something important to say and it must be said.  You do to.

Story 101 is more than just another ecourse.  It is about truth, authenticity, connection, words, art, writing, storytelling, and community.  Consider this course because maybe someone else’s words within the writing community will set your heart ablaze.

Story 101 reconnected me to my creative side.  I strongly believe it can do the same for you.  Won’t you come join the story?  Be a part of something that will move your soul with fire and passion.  You won’t be sorry.  And maybe, just maybe, you’ll feel the embrace of a sisterhood that is lovingly fierce.

  1. Well, I wish I was a lady, and could afford it…Story 101 sounds great!

I’m in the same boat. My career ended, my health tanked, and while I don’t have the energy to do more than comment on some blogs any more, I did write four novels…

And I do wonder, did I have anything to say? Was it worth it, or was it simply an exercise in ego?

I’m glad there’s a place where some can find validation. Wish I were there, but it’s just darn nice to know it exists.

    • Yes!!! That’s great that you were able to write four novels. Not too many people can say that! Go You! I know there are many writing courses out there, but this one was the first one I ever took, and it’s helped me so much. Thank you for reading!!
