And Even in This, Lord, Have Mercy

When we feel, we feel deeply.

There are no words for the sorrow and anguish in the wake of devastation that has happened in Moore.  There are no words I can carry to soothe those broken souls in Granbury or West or Boston.

The losses are heavy, overwhelming, and too much for any human heart to bear. We all feel this hurt, this pain.  It is deep cutting to the soul.  I have nothing to offer but my prayers and the hope that light will shine again amidst the darkness.

This much I know is true: The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who are crushed in spirit (NKJV 910).  So I lift my gaze to heaven and cry out to God for mercy.  These tears, sighs, and groans – He understands each one.  He is acquainted with grief and sorrow.

Father God, have mercy on us.  Have mercy on the people devastated by the recent horrific disasters.  Send love.  Send hope.  Send healing and restoration.  Send comfort and grace.  Send neighbors to take care of neighbors.

Lord, speak Your Truth to every heart that has been crushed by the weight of upheaval and loss.  God, oh God have mercy on us – for your name’s sake.  I’m crying out desperately Sovereign Lord for you – we need You now more than we ever have before.  God I know you are acquainted with searing loss – you have up your Son that we might have life abundantly.  Wrap, oh God, your wings around the mothers, fathers, aunts, uncles, sisters, and brothers in Moore tonight.  Grace upon grace be upon each soul.  I pray the same for Granbury, West, and Boston – Kyrie Eleison -Lord, have mercy.

May our hearts seek you, cry out to you, be healed and made whole by you.

I feel deeply the sinking sadness and clouds of darkness encroaching on hope.  God have mercy and beat back despair.  Remember that we are but dust.  Hold us – embrace us in our weeping and mourning.  Father God, surround us with songs of deliverance and goodness.  Lord, may your compassion be felt by all those who have suffered loss – may your truth shine bright.  Remind us Whose we are.

When I feel, I feel deeply.   My heart turns again to the promise eternal of your Word, God.

Psalm 23

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil;
For You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.

You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You anoint my head with oil;
My cup runs over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
All the days of my life;
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord
Forever. (NKJV 898-899)

And even in this, Lord, Have Mercy.
