Stir Up the Gift

I begin and end with one of my favorite scriptures in the bible.  It’s all about purpose, talents, abilities and using them for the glory of God (my loose interpretation – I’m no theologian), but here it is from 1 Timothy 4:

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.  Until I come, devote yourself to the public reading of Scripture, to preaching and to teaching.  Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through prophecy when the body of elders laid their hands on you. Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress.  Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.

His Voice

His Voice

I so love that Paul encouraged Timothy to stay the course purposed in Him.  Each of us has a destiny, a purpose, a calling.  So many times we fall out of it, don’t pursue it, forget about it, or get totally sidetracked.  Sounds like the story of my life.  I’ve known for a while what I’m good at doing.  I just haven’t really taken the time to flesh it out, live it, be it, and do it.  Truth be told; I was afraid – very afraid.  I let that fear ruin many productive years of my life.  Fear is never your friend.  Fear is a destroyer.  Fear robs you of a future and a hope.  Paul knew this and therefore encouraged Timothy to not neglect his gifts no matter what.  In fact persevering in the gifts is a saving grace.  I can imagine it keeps one motivated and moving forward!  I like forward movement.  It implies growth and development, and I’m all about both of those; but there have been times I have lived on pause far longer than I’d like to admit.

Choose today to live with less fear.  Choose today to live with more purpose.  Choose today to live in the zone of your passion.  Choose today to be all that you were truly designed to be.  Figure out what you were made for.  Figure out what really lights your heart and sets you ablaze.  You know that thing that you could do or talk about and time flies?  Yes, that thing.  You must go out and do those things you think you cannot do because those are the very things you were meant to do.  The more you do them, the more confident you will become; and we all get to benefit from you being you.  You are called to significance.  Just say yes.  Let God work through you.  Don’t let anyone crash your dream or tell you that it can’t be done.  Don’t allow scoffers and mockers and cynics to crush your gifts.  You are a beautiful creation design to do good works.  Move from fear to faith.  Actively do what brings you to life.  You won’t be disappointed.

Now my charge as always… Go!  Live by just…being!  Let that being become what you do. It was always who you were.
